While yesterday’s discussions were all around suckler beef systems, today it’s the turn of the black and whites, as day two of the Teagasc Virtual Beef Week focuses on dairy calf to beef production.
Guests on today’s show include Donal Fahy, manager of the dairy calf to beef trial in Teagasc, Grange. Donal will outline the current performance levels on the dairy calf to beef project including management over the last few weeks.
Dr Bernadette Early, research officer in Teagasc Grange, will outline the latest research in relation to the health of artificially-reared calves. She will also outline some of the latest research on vaccination policies.
Alan Dillon, beef specialist with Teagasc, will talk about health plans on dairy calf to beef farms along with the importance of using the right genetics and sourcing quality healthy calves. As part today's show we also visit the farm of JP Hammersley in Tipperary. JP farms on a part-time basis and purchases 70 calves annually to bring through to finish. Tune in on farmersjournal.ie at 12pm for today’s show.
