Although Kramer may seem like a relatively new brand to the Irish market, the German firm is the manufacturer of telehandlers that have been working in Ireland for many years now, only in disguise under different branding.

Kramer, a subsidiary of Wacker Neuson, manufactures an extensive range of compact wheel loaders, telescopic wheel loaders and telehandlers. Up until recently, the German firm was building the range of Scorpion machines under the Claas livery. Since parting ways with Claas, Kramer struck a deal with John Deere whereby the Kramer product range would be sold through its dealer network.

The model we put to test was the firm’s flagship telescopic wheel loader, the KL55.8T. Underneath the surface, the KL55.8T, like all Kramer machines, is home to high-quality, proven components. Two power output options are available. Both options use Deutz Stage V engines, outputting 136hp and 156hp.

Hydrostatic transmission

The model as tested was fitted with the larger 156hp power plant, which in turn comes as standard with the larger 187l/min hydraulic pump over the 150l/min pump fitted with the smaller engine.

The KL55.8T is fitted with a three-range 40km/h GKN hydrostatic transmission and Italian-built Cararro front axles.

Unique to Kramer is its one-piece chassis concept. Three steering options can be selected from inside the cab to suit varying applications - four-wheel steer, front-wheel steer and a crab-steer mode.

In this week’s Irish Farmers Journal, we bring you a review of this latest telescopic offering from Kramer after putting it to work on the silage pit. So, be sure to pick up a copy or read the full story online here.
