With warmth and hazy sunshine on Friday, heavy, thundery showers will develop this afternoon and evening across the country, Met Éireann has forecast.

However, some areas will remain dry, especially parts of the east and south.

Maximum temperatures 20°C to 24°C in light northeasterly or variable breezes, but cooler on coasts with sea breezes.

On Friday night, showers will largely die out and most areas will be dry with clear spells.

Saturday

Saturday will be warm, with hazy sunshine once again. Scattered heavy and thundery showers will develop inland during the afternoon and evening, with a risk of spot flooding.

Some areas will escape, remaining dry. Maximum temperatures 19°C to 23°C, in light variable breezes, but a little cooler on coasts.

Sunday

Many areas will remain dry with sunny intervals on Sunday. Scattered showers will develop, most of them in the east and south. Some of the showers will be heavy and possibly thundery. Temperatures of 17°C to 22°C, warmest in Leinster and Munster, with light north to northeast breezes.

Outlook

Warm in the early days of next week, especially in the southern half of the country and there will be a good deal of dry weather with some scattered showers. Indications are that it will become cooler and changeable from midweek.

Unsettled weather is to follow for the end of next week, as an Atlantic weather regime becomes established. There will be some rain at times, alternating with dry spells, but overall rainfall totals are expected to be relatively small, especially in the south and east.
