To date a total of €22.6m worth of Irish beef has been sent to the US since the market opened to Irish beef in March 2015.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that as of January 2018, 144t of Irish beef was exported to the value of €659,000. The cuts were mainly frozen edible offal, followed by frozen boneless beef and a small amount of fresh or chilled boneless beef.

Last year, a total of €7.4m worth of Irish beef totalling 1,530t was shipped to the US. This was a decrease on 2016 figures when €9.1m worth of beef weighing a total of 1,656t was exported.

A total of 10 Irish plants have now been approved for the export of beef to the US, two of which are also approved for beef intended for grinding (mince). These two plants are Foyle Foods Group in Co Donegal and Kepak’s Ballymahon plant in Co Longford.

The CSO figures show that to date no mince has been exported to the US.
