Advanced Proteins, a subsidiary company of the Larry Goodman controlled ABP Group, has acquired UK-based animal byproduct and proteins company, John Pointon and Sons, for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Staffordshire in England, John Pointon and Sons is the largest single-site byproduct and pet food ingredient supplier in the UK market. A family-run business up to now, John Pointon and Sons has a capacity of 400,000t on its 80ac site and employs over 200 people.

“It will be business as usual and we look forward to further developing and growing the business,” said Frank Stephenson, chief executive of the ABP Food Group.

ABP has been involved in the animal byproducts business for over 50 years.

Its advanced proteins division operates separately and independently from ABP’s fresh beef division. ABP Food Group also controls C&D Foods, the Co Longford-based petfood company, having taken over the business from the Reynolds family.

C&D Foods is a €500m turnover business and the largest private label pet food manufacturer in Europe with manufacturing operations in Ireland, the UK, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Austria and Spain.
