A slight improvement in trade saw a 65% clearance with an average price of €2,700. A large crowd of buyers gathered ringside for the show and sale.

The top price on the day went to Micheal John Ball from Ballyhip, Louisburgh, Co Mayo. His 13-month-old bull, sired by Pirate, sold for €3,800. He was 6.5% for calving ease, along with a five-star terminal index and a €140 €uro-Star valve.

The next best price was for a Fiston son bred by John Nerney, Churchfield House, Shankill, Elphin, Co Roscommon. This October 2016-born bull was five-star for both terminal and replacement index and only 6.2% for calving ease. He sold for €3,550.

Hitting €3,250 was Drumcrow Mick, bred by David Abbot, Drumcrow, Killeshandra, Co Cavan. His November 2016-born bull came second in his class on the day. He was sired by Derryolam Impeccable.

The champion bull on the day was Clewbay12 Mega. The 19-month-old Vosgien VF son sold for €2,600 and was exhibited by Charles Hughes, Lankhill, Westport, Co Mayo.

Reserve champion

The reserve champion Tullaghan Max fetched a price of €3,100 and was bred by Micheal Daly, Wardhouse, Tullaghan, Co Leitrim. He was sired by Excellent.

Only one Charolais heifer was on offer. She was exhibited by Lewis Regan Tawley, Castegal, Co Leitrim and was sired by CF52. She sold for €2,000.

A small selection of Limousin bulls were on offer with the top price going to Patrick Murphy, Ross Glasson, Athlone, Co Westmeath. His five-star Ampertaine Gigolo son made €2,000.
