Co Tyrone-based Strathroy Dairies has taken an additional 18m litres of a liquid milk contract to supply Lidl Ireland off Aurivo and Arrabawn.

It is a significant move that consolidates Strathroy’s position as the main supplier to the discount retailer.

The company processes milk in Northern Ireland, but buys milk on both sides of the Irish border.

Strathroy director Ruairi Cunningham told the Irish Farmers Journal that all milk for Lidl Ireland will be produced on farms in the Republic of Ireland.

“We have a 120m-litre milk pool in the south, and it is growing,” he said.

He also maintained that new technology at their Omagh site has reduced plastic packaging waste, and that was a major factor in securing the Lidl deal.
