One trend that is evident in Ballymote and Mohill in the last few weeks is the increase in cull cow numbers. While supply is strong, so too is demand. This may be driven by farmers choosing to sell early to counteract possible fodder issues. In contrast, the trade for good-quality calved and in-calf cows and heifers is very strong, with prices up on where they were this time last year. The sheep trade has improved once again, with more activity for lambs, making them a lot easier sold.
