As part of the Fulbright scholarship, trials will be conducted analysing the impact of lactobacillus on the gut, specifically the role it plays in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
IBS can affect anyone and is mainly associated with dietary changes, stress and medication problems but is becoming more and more of a problem.
Speaking at the announcement, Shane O’Donnell was excited to receive the scholarship and the opportunities it will present him in his studies.
"I am thoroughly looking forward to continuing my research in Harvard and embracing every experience that this opportunity will bring," O'Donnel said.
