Three companies have been appointed by the Department for the Economy to inspect boilers accredited under the non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). Greenview Gas Ltd, Totalis Solutions Ltd and Element Consultants Ltd will conduct the next wave of boiler inspections. An initial series of pilot inspections began last year and were conducted by consultancy firm Riccardo AEA.

A report published earlier this month by the Controller and Auditor General for NI (CAGNI) states that 33 sites with a total of 65 biomass boilers were inspected by Riccardo AEA.

The main issues found in these audits related to incorrect installation of heat meters and temperature sensors, incomplete record keeping and inaccurate heat loss assessments.

The department is now planning to have on-site inspection on 250 of the 1,270 sites in NI with RHI boilers during the 2018/2019 year.
