This time last year, butter markets in Europe were almost at the peak of the price bubble that saw butter reach an unprecedented €7,000/t.

A lot has happened in the last 12 months but butter markets have enjoyed somewhat of a soft landing with prices trading this week close to €5,600/t – a very healthy price by any measure.

The heatwave that has hit much of Europe over the last two months means milk supplies from dairy farms on the continent are down over recent weeks, which has left many dairy buyers nervous for the back end of the year. It is likely we could see butter hit €6,000/t again in the coming weeks.
