Monday’s dairy sale went quite well, with some value to be had.
The strongest demand was for some of the calved and springing heifers, but farmers were active for all good-quality spring-calvers also.
A good deal of the demand was from farmers who had travelled to the sale. We had dairy farmers from Galway and as far away as Wicklow. There were about 140 head on offer and we achieved a clearance rate of 85%. In terms of prices, some of the better-quality calved heifers sold from €1,250 to €1,450.

The main supply was of spring-calving heifers and these sold for €1,330/head on average. Top-quality heifers were a very strong trade and achieved prices of over €1,400/head.
