All purchases of compound ruminant feeds from Dairygold between 23 July and 30 September are eligible to a €10/t rebate, the co-op has announced. Dairy, suckler and sheep farmers can avail of the measure, with the rebate credited to their account at the end of the month following the date of their purchase, subject to terms and conditions.

'Real potential for winter fodder shortages'

"This €10/t rebate will be a welcome additional financial support for farmers whose feed costs have increased as a result of the prolonged drought which has negatively impacted grass growth,” Dairygold chair John O'Gorman said in a statement. “Our priority is to introduce measures to help alleviate the current grass shortage while proactively addressing the real potential for winter fodder shortages."

The co-op is also holding a series of workshops to provide advice to farmers in August. This comes after Dairygold introduced free credit for its members in July, August and now September.
