Hauling grass is a breeze when you’ve got a jaunty song to accompany you. Donegal country singer Paul Kelly released his latest song Cut the Grass on 23 May and it’s the perfect tune for silage season.
The music video has already garnered over a million views online on Facebook and YouTube.
The catchy, upbeat song has been well received by the public and in the charts.
“What inspired the song was my girlfriend, who was looking to book a holiday and I said I couldn't go until the silage was cut which put the first line in my head, ‘holidays me ass, I’ve got to cut the grass’ and it went from there. A day later I had the lyrics written,” said writer of the song Andrew Cox.
Andrew also said the song was based on his days spent doing hay and silage on the family farm. The music video was shot by Barry Donnelly on a large farm in BallyGawley, Co Tyrone.
Paul and Andrew have worked together on previous songs such as On the Market. The singer has recorded two albums with hits such as Tang’s Hauling and Summer Time. Paul released his first single So in Love in 2012.
Paul and his six-piece band will be touring dance venues across Ireland over the next few months. If you are living in the northwest, you can hear him hosting Keep it Country on Ocean FM from 2pm to 4pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
