This week’s management notes touched on options available to farmers with three less dipping products available in 2019.

This has reduced treatment and preventative options for blowfly strike and ticks, both of which are on farmers' radars at the moment.

A number of farmers have been in contact to enquire as to the products in question. These are detailed in Table 1.

These products do not offer more preventative options but they do open up options for spot treatment of blowfly strike, while also possessing treatment and preventative properties for ticks and in cases lice or keds.

Guidelines

It is important to follow manufacturers guidelines in terms of tick and lice treatment, with most of the additional products applied in one spot behind the shoulder following parting of the wool.

In terms of blowfly strike, they work when applied to the affected area.

Advice includes cutting away stained wool in advanced cases of blowfly strike.

Information is taken from the Health Products Regulatory Authority.

Effort has been made to include all options, but there may be other options available.
