FRS Network has launched a farm staff partnership programme to encourage farmers to employ farm staff on longer-term contracts.

Farm work is traditionally seasonal, with peak demand from dairy farmers during the busy spring-calving season.

However FRS said that while it still has people looking for seasonal work, there is also a cohort of people who want longer-term, stable work contracts.

“We have a group of people who would love to work in agriculture but the long-term work isn’t there and they might have gone into construction. We’re trying to get those people back,” a spokesperson for FRS said.

Demand from dairy farms for additional labour after a period of recent expansion has been acute, with the Department of Business recently awarding the sector 100 additional permits for workers from outside the European Economic Area.

FRS hopes its drive for longer-term contracts will make farm management more attractive to workers in Ireland. You can find more information by going onto the FRS website.
