Calf sales are now at peak, with the majority of those on offer being young two- to three-week-olds. Friesian bull prices continue to be variable, ranging mainly from €25 to €50/head.

The younger calves of about two weeks olds are at the lower range of prices, selling from €20 to €30/head.

With weather disrupting exports, there is a fear that prices in the coming week will be negatively impacted. Angus bulls and heifers are selling from €91 to €170/head, depending on quality.

Herefords are a stronger trade and are selling for about €50 to €70/head above this.

The quality of Angus and Hereford calves on offer is having a major impact on prices. Those that are plainer quality, who look young or who are light boned are being met with weak demand. Where continental calves are on offer, prices are ranging from €200 to €450/head.
