Germany – wheat harvest forecast higher

Germany’s wheat harvest for 2018 is forecast at just under 24m tonnes, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). This is almost 4m tonnes higher than the 20.3m tonne wheat harvest last season.

Brazil – maize harvest set to hit 99m tonnes

Brazil’s maize (corn) harvest in 2019 is forecast to hit 99m tonnes, according to grain analyst agency CONAB. This latest forecast is a 1.5m tonne rise on its previous prediction. The US Department of Agriculture is forecasting Brazil to produce 101m tonnes of maize.

Australia – beef exports record third year of growth

Australia exported just under 1.2m tonnes of beef for its 2018/19 season (July 2018 to June 2019), which is the third consecutive season of beef export growth for the country. Sheepmeat exports for the same period stood at 463,000t.

US – forecast beef production lowered

US beef production for 2019 has been lowered slightly by 35,000t to 12.3m tonnes due to lighter carcase weights of cattle this year. For 2020, the US Department of Agriculture has forecast that US beef production will hit 12.4m tonnes.
