US open to beef imports from Brazil

The USA has reopened its market to fresh beef imports from Brazil for the first time since the middle of 2017. They will have access to the same low-tariff quota as Ireland, which could affect Irish beef sales to the US, which are currently running 153% ahead of the same period in 2019.

New Zealand – double-trouble for dairy

Dairy is under pressure with the twin threat of coronavirus to markets and drought to production contributing to the lowest GDT value in over a year. Chinese buyers are active but cautious and Fonterra is forecasting NZ$7.00/kg to NZ$7.60/kg (€4.12/kg to €4.39/kg).

Europe – Pigmeat exports increase in 2019 with China the main market

EU pigmeat exports increased by 20% in 2019 to 4.7m, tonnes compared with 3.9m tonnes in 2018. China has taken over half of the total at 2.4m tonnes, a 78% increase in 2018 volumes. EU weighted average pig price for last week was €1.85/kg, 36% better than the same week in 2019.

Brazil – another record forecast for beef exports

2019 was a record year for Brazilian beef exports and the forecast is that a further 10% will be added to exports in 2020. According to USDA/FAS, exports will reach 2.5m tonnes carcase weight equivalent this year.
