The farm management app Herdwatch has been awarded the silver online innovation award ahead of LAMMA, the UK’s largest machinery and agricultural show.

The app was launched in 2014 and the team is particularly proud of its latest development – a barcode scanner – which allows farmers to scan animal medicines on their smartphone and record their use.

All the farmer has to do is show the inspector his reports from the Herdwatch app

“This gives farmers the confidence that their records are 100% accurate and in the event of a farm inspection, all the farmer has to do is show the inspector his reports from the Herdwatch app,” Fabien Peyaud, Herdwatch CEO, said.

Our members tell us the app saves them at least two to three hours a week

The app also allows farmers to input other types of farm records and is used by more than 8,000 farmers across Ireland and the UK.

“Herdwatch can literally save farmers hours on paperwork every week by allowing them to record farm and animal events on the go as they happen.

“Our members tell us the app saves them at least two to three hours a week,” added Peyaud.

"It’s our second award for the app from the show – we won a merit award at LAMMA few years ago and it’s great to get acknowledgement for the progress we’ve made.

"We’ve really hit the ground running in the UK and this award is based on the scanning feature – the amount of hassle it saves farmers is phenomenal

"It’s a serious boost to get this kind of recognition for our unique innovation and gives us the motivation to keep developing and progressing the app."
