Comment: Demand for potatoes continues to remain steady throughout all markets. However, there has been no change in prices.

With the end of January stock figures 60,000t lower than last year and ambient store material coming to an end, we could see increases in the next month or so.

The January potato stocks figure for the UK is 600,000t less than last year. This figure is 200,000t above the figure in 2012, but with exports continuing unabated to the continent, this gap could narrow in the coming months.

Plantings have come to a halt except in the very driest sands in the east, with a similar situation across Europe.
