The much-anticipated report into the Irish beef sector by economist Jim Power, commissioned by the IFA, is to be published “in the next number of weeks” according to IFA president Tim Cullinan.

At the Meath IFA AGM one farmer asked why the Power report “had been left in a drawer” since last autumn. Cullinan declined to comment further only to say it would be published shortly.

The report was commissioned in January 2019 to determine who made what in the beef industry.

Cullinan said the Beef Market Taskforce, set up in the wake of last autumn’s factory protests, was also carrying out similar work.

Cullinan is a month into the job and has been on a tour of county AGMs meeting members and fielding questions about plans to reform the IFA.
