The Irish Farmers Journal understands that killing was suspended at Kepak only on Monday morning. Figures for last week showed that one in 14 sheep presented to factories was classified in category C, which means they were deemed too dirty to be slaughtered under the latest criteria.
Galway east TD Seán Canney said in a statement that he had raised the matter with Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed.
"Having spoken personally to the minister, he is aware of the teething process with this new regime and is working to ensure that there will be no further issues in relation to the smooth transition and processing of lambs in coming days and weeks," Deputy Canney said.
