The deadline for applications to the Macra na Feirme/FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition is Friday 4 September.

Young farmers from the various agricultural sectors are invited to enter the competition, with the winner from each sector competing to be crowned the 2020 FBD Young Farmer of the Year.

Macra president Thomas Duffy said: “The proud tradition of the competition is in showcasing the best young people in farming and the challenges they have overcome.”

Awards

This year features awards for:

  • Best emerging young farmer.
  • Land mobility.
  • Most climate change conscious young farmer.
  • Best farm manager.
  • National rural network biodiversity farmer of the year.
  • The land mobility category will focus on farmers who display innovative solutions to accessing and utilising land for farming.

    IFA president Tim Cullinan said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for farmers starting out on their careers to pit their skills against their peers and to have their ambitions and vision tested by judges.”

    The overall winner of the 2020 FBD Young Farmer of the Year will receive a travel bursary of €3,000 and each category winner will receive €500. All county winners will also receive an award.

    FBD Insurance CCO John Cahalan said: “I urge all eligible young farmers to take part and to showcase the next generation of farming talent in Ireland. We are proud to support an award that celebrates the achievements of young farmers.”
