Engineering and agricultural equipment specialists Jetwash Ltd, based in Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, showcased a unique ATV rollover protection system at this year’s National Ploughing Championships.
The AR-Quad by Air-Rops is a clever French-built solution, designed to deploy using an ejector-style approach in the event that the ATV on which it is fitted overturns.
The rollover frame expands from its folded working position via an instantaneous gas inflator system, in a similar manner to how an air bag is deployed in a car accident.
The universal unit weighs 18kg and is mounted via the ATV’s tow bar bracket and supported from the rear cargo rack.

The unit is compact in its folded position.
Jetwash outlined that the system offers a much lower centre of gravity in comparison to competitor solutions along with increased functionality.
A built-in inclinometer sensor constantly measures the angle at which the quad is travelling across in order to detect roll-over or unsuitable terrain.
When the recommended travel angle has been exceeded, a hard-wired alarm and a dash light is triggered.

A built-in inclinometer sensor constantly measures the angle at which the quad is travelling across.
However, the single-use gas inflator system is not triggered until the exact point that the ATV rolls over.
Once triggered, the unit extends from its folded position, preventing the ATV from rolling over completely and crushing the rider. The alarm and warning light remains active to signal others in the event that the rider is injured and unresponsive.
The entire kit including mounting brackets and 12v to 24v wiring harness is priced at €1,800 plus VAT. Replacement gas inflation canisters cost €250 each.
