The latest FTMTA tractor registration figures show that 113 new tractors were registered during the month of September, 47% more than September 2024.
The continued positivity within the new tractor trade has brought the year-to-date moving total of new tractor registrations to 1,921 units. This is up 12% on the first nine months of 2024, when 1,715 new units were registered.
The most popular power band for September 2025 was the 161hp to 200hp category, which accounted for 22% of all new tractor registrations in September. This is also the most popular power band for the year to date, accounting for 25% of all new tractor registrations so far.
Meanwhile, the over 200hp category has slipped slightly to 12.35% of all new tractor’s registrations. The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for September 2025 was 135hp, and the largest tractor registered was rated at 280hp.
County Cork continues to dominate with the highest number of new tractor registrations, which up until the end of September stood at 278, while Tipperary was ranked in second place with 183 units, followed by Wexford at 113 units.
Used tractors
The data compiled by the FTMTA shows that 241 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in September 2025, 35 more units than in September 2024. The year-to-date used tractor registration figure sits at 2,196 units, 84 units more than that registered for the first nine months of 2024.
Northern Ireland
According to the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA), a total of 33 new tractors were registered in Northern Ireland during September, up 106% on the 17 units registered during the same month last year. This brings the year-to-date tractor registrations in the region to 383 units. This figure is down 17 units, or 4.2%, on 2024 figures.
Meanwhile, AEA data shows that tractor registrations for the entire UK showed signs of positivity. For the first time since December 2023, the number of new tractors registered in September 2025 was higher than a year earlier.
A total of 932 new units were registered for the month, up 3.7% on 2024. However, registrations are still 16% below the five-year average for the time of year. The year to date figures for the new UK market totalled at 7,083 units up to the end of September, which is 14% behind the nine-month total in 2024.
