Days don't come much better than last Friday's British Limousin Cattle Society bull sale in Borderway Mart, Carlisle, as Bruce Goldie's award-winning herd dominated the show ring prizes and the leading prices in the sale ring.

The Dumfries-based herd took away with the intermediate championship, reserve intermediate championship, reserve junior championship, overall championship and the top price of 70,000gns (€84,593).

Topping the trade at that top price was the intermediate and overall champion Goldies Victory.

A son of Ampertaine Opportunity, this February 2024-born bull comes from one of the best lines in the herd, descending from Wilodge Lj Wey15 and Goldies Fairtytale.

The double F94L carrier displayed some impressive 200- and 400-day weight figures, as well as holding the accolade of reserve overall champion at the 2025 Royal Highland Show.

Securing Victory for their well-known herd in Cumbria was Messrs Jenkinson.

Goldies team

The Goldies team also received the second-highest price of 32,000gns (€38,671) for the reserve intermediate champion Goldies Viscount.

Like his stable mate, Viscount is sired by the herd's stock bull Ampertaine Opportunity, which was purchased in Carlisle in 2019 for 40,000gns.

Going back to Goldies Juggler and Goldies Musical, this March 2024-born bull also offered two copies of the F94L gene and was purchased in partnership by the Sportsmans and Swalesmoor herds.

The first-prizewinner Wedderburn Vance was next best at 25,000gns (€30,211) for JK Hunter in Aberdeenshire.

A carrier of the F94L and Q204X genes, this March 2024-born bull is a son of Foxhillfarm Ourbest and the Westpit Ollie daughter Wedderburn Sunshine.

Like many of the high sellers, he offered buyers some eye-catching growth figures and was the choice lot of Messrs Neill and Partners from Roxburghshire.

All the way from Northern Ireland, James McKay was next in line at 17,000gns (€20,544) with Ampertaine Volvo.

Born in March 2024, this short gestation bull is a son of Carnew Millreef and Ampertaine Origin, who has already made a name for herself, producing bulls to 20,000gns.

Wrapping up this second-prizewinner was Longwood Farm in Risborough.

Senior champion

A number of lots hit 16,000gns (€19,335) including the senior and reserve overall champion Cowin Unleashed from the fold of Messrs James in south Wales.

A son of Goldies Orinocco, this single NT821 and F94L carrier was knocked down to Messrs Marrs and sons.

Although the sale average was up £2,335 on last year's sale to settle at £10,235 (€11,779), buyers were selective, as just 56 out of the 100 bulls cataloged found new residences.

Almost 68% of bulls sold from 4,000gns to 8,000gns, with 16 bulls over 10,000gns.
