Prince’s Countryside Fund has awarded £50,000 to a community group hoping to set up a small abattoir on Skye. The money is to be spent on equipment, as the slaughterhouse takes a step closer. The facility is to support local food businesses and crofters, along with reducing food miles. A feasibility study by SAC into the abattoir projected throughput to be 800 sheep, 100 cattle and 130 pigs per year.
