It was a clean sweep again for the Murphy family and bloodlines at Roscommon Show, where Eddie’s Inisfree Grey Maiden, shown by his daughter Martina who has recently returned from Australia, won the All Ireland Irish Draught yearling filly final.

By the Charlestown family’s own Inisfree The Holy Grail, she was Sharyn Alexander and John Walshe’s choice of the 18 fillies.

Reserve was last year’s All Ireland filly foal champion; Louise Shaughnessy’s yearling by Tors Gentleman Farmer – another stallion owned by the Murphys. Third place went to Kenny and Wendy Bell’s Castleview Lady Georgina, by Castleview Inisfree Farmer (Tors Gentleman Farmer).

The region five qualifier for the €24,000 Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) foal championships also took place at Roscommon and the second of this year’s qualifiers saw eight foals through to the Cavan final in October.

Alannah Glynn, Tara Timlin and Susan Mee (junior section), plus Melissa Glynn, Colin Doyle and Claire Sheerin (senior section) all qualified for the HSI young handlers final, to be held again at the National Ploughing Championships next month.
