Glanbia says it is not planning to build a new dryer in Virginia, Co Cavan, despite approval being granted by the planning authorities last week, a spokesperson for the company has said.
Permission was granted for a new 42m high dryer plus a two storey building. The approved plans also include a new entrance on the N3, reception, 218 car parking spaces, a
new milk intake building and storage silos, among other things.
A Glanbia spokesperson said: “The decision was made to proceed at Belview and drier three is now operating successfully.

“As part of contingency planning, a planning application was also lodged for Virginia. There are no plans at present
to build a new drier at Virginia.”
The application fee for the planning permission was almost €29,500, with the permission valid for five years.
