The Dutch are never far away when it comes to new technology, but they’re not averse to mixing the old and the new either.
I spotted that a study is underway at the Louis Bolk Institute where they are looking at direct drilling maize into a cover crop of clover.
It was planted with a strip tiller and, to reduce competition in the initial growth stages, the cover crop was harvested when the maize was sown.
The private research foundation hopes to achieve significant gains in biodiversity, soil quality, and water management without dramatically compromising production.
