Cork Central IFA crossed the border to west Cork for its monthly meeting this week, as it held it in Timoleague hall. The locals voted to go to west Cork when the IFA divided the county into three regions, in doing so they made neighbouring Barryroe a Cork Central enclave.

There were calls for action and protest from those present, but it came as a shock to some to hear that the nitrates derogation wasn’t as big an issue elsewhere. Depending on your location, it’s either the Nature Restoration Law or the nitrates derogation that cause anger, but rarely do the two issues meet.

Politicians will hope that the new CAP proposals don’t become a spark for this potential powder keg.
