“Over the last week, a number of agricultural vehicles have been involved in serious collisions, so again, we are advising all road users to exercise great care," said PSNI chief inspector Diane Pennington.

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a tractor in Co Antrim on Monday. A man was arrested at the weekend after the passenger of a tractor died in a single vehicle collision on Friday night.

"Those using agricultural vehicles must use seatbelts where fitted, ensure mirrors are clear, signals are clean and used before manoeuvring and be aware of other road users", chief inspector Pennington said.

“All other road users, particularly those using country roads, need to ensure they drive at an appropriate speed to give them enough time to react to any slower moving agricultural vehicles, pay particular attention to width markings and any signals. Please take extra care and patience to reduce risk by not making dangerous overtaking manoeuvres," she added.

The PSNI is planning to step up checkpoints and breath tests in the coming weeks and will liaise with An Garda Síochána to tackle cross-border "road users taking unnecessary and potentially life-changing risks".

Some 25 people have died on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year.
