  • • Secondary school: John the Baptist, Hospital, Co Limerick.
  • • College: University of Limerick.
  • • Best subject in school: History.
  • • Car you drive: 2008 BMW 3 Series.
  • • Industry: Advocating for Ireland’s dairy and specialised nutrition industry at home and abroad as director of the IDIA.
  • • First job: Farming at home in Limerick of course. My first paid job was in the storeroom of Fine Wines in Limerick City at Christmas time, while in third year in secondary school.
  • • Biggest inspiration: My parents. You only see the sacrifices made for you when you get older.
  • • Favourite job: Footing turf.
  • • Favourite part of your job: The satisfaction of knowing that the work I am doing is helping not only the 14 member companies of the IDIA, but their success is further contributing to thousands of dairy farms and parishes across the island.
  • • Least favourite part of your job: Long hours.
  • • Turning point of your career: Getting a position in the Houses of the Oireachtas as a Parliamentary Assistant in 2007.
  • • Lowest point of your career: I would say it was not getting a ‘butterfat adjustment’ in Brussels to reduce the superlevy bill for farmers as quota ended. We did get the bill spread over a few years, but superlevy bills were dead money for our industry.
  • • Best advice you could give someone new to the industry: Try to work to a plan and treat people the way you would like to be treated yourself and you won’t go far wrong. CL
