The Johnstown Castle weather station in Co Wexford registered just over 69mm of rain in the week from 1 to 7 April, that’s 408% its normal rainfall level for this time of year. Valentia in Co Kerry recorded 64mm, 260% its normal level. Meanwhile, Knock Airport recorded almost double its normal rainfall, with just over 40mm.

Across the country, rainfall was well above normal, but some parts of the midlands were close to average. It was wettest across the south and east, where there was three to four times the norm in many areas. The coming week is expected to have rainfall well below average generally, ranging from 30% to 50%.

Temperatures are expected to improve this week which should help growth. However, as the map shows, soil temperatures are still up to a degree lower than usual in most parts.
