The Beef Environmental Efficiency Pilot (BEEP) Scheme is now open, meaning farmers can begin recording cow and calf weights.

However, in order to qualify for the €40 payment, the scales with which cows and calves are weighed must also be registered with the ICBF.

Registration

For farmers with their own weighing scales, they can register online or over the phone.

There are three pieces of information required; the make (manufacturer) of the scales, the serial number of the scales and the year in which the scales was purchased.

Once the scales is registered, if a farmer then wishes to loan the scales to a neighbour, the registration number goes with the scales.

Registering online

Registering a scales online is quick and straightforward once you have the required information at hand.

Step 1

Users must first login to their ICBF online services account.

Step 2

Under the services dropdown menu, users should select BEEP.

Step 3

Users will then be given two options; to record weights or to view/register own scales.

Step 4

After clicking on view/register own scales, users should then click to register/add scales, located in the top left corner of the page.

Step 5

Here, users can then fill in the three fields with the required information.

Rental

For those renting a scales through the ICBF service, they need not worry about registering the scales they rent, as the ICBF will know the registration number of the scales through the booking system.

Application to rent a scales can be made with the ICBF online or by phone or from a scales-renting depot.

Recording weights

To record weights, users should follow steps 1 to 3 as outlined above and then select the option to record weights.

From here, users should simply record the date on which weighing was completed and fill in the weights of livestock with their corresponding tag numbers.
