The sheep trade is being boosted this week by live export activity with a number of exporters sourcing sheep for export to European and North African markets. Demand is building ahead of the Islamic religious festival of Eid al-Adha which runs from 26 to 30 May.

Prices in some marts are up €3 to €5 per head as a result with heavier lambs selling from €215 to €230 per head.

Factory quotes are unchanged with lambs continuing to trade at upwards of €10/kg while hogget prices are in the region of €9.40/kg to €9.60/kg.
