The latest Bord Bia sheep market dashboard for the week of 26 July 2025 shows prices across key sheep producing nations running anywhere from 25c/kg to €1.85/kg ahead of the corresponding week in 2024.
Sheep producers in Australia are enjoying the most improved market performance with prices averaging €6.65/kg, an increase of €1.85/kg on the corresponding week in 2024.
While market performance in New Zealand is also significantly improved with the average lamb price running €1.32/kg higher, it continue to lags well behind the Australian price with their sheepmeat exports benefiting from vibrant market demand in the US.

French lamb prices remain the highest in the main sheep producing nations at €9.25/kg, slightly ahead of 2024 price levels. Spanish prices are not far behind and at an average of €8.93/kg they are running 92c/kg higher year-on-year.
The Irish farmgate sheep price is €1.32/kg higher than the final week in July 2024 with prices resisting the normal seasonal decline in recent weeks. The price of €7.85/kg is exclusive of the 5% flat rate VAT addition that farmers not registered for VAT receive.
The average farmgate lamb price in Britain is reported at an equivalent of €7.65/kg but there appears to be an error in price with the Agriculture Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) reporting a price of £7.35/kg for the corresponding week which is the equivalent of €8.55/kg at 86p to the euro.
Last but not least prices in Northern Ireland at the equivalent of €7.45/kg are running 49c/kg higher.
