Triplet Friesian calves were born in Gaggin, Bandon, Co Cork on Saturday night on the Walsh family farm. Expecting twins, the triplets came as a surprise to the family. The calves, one heifer and two bulls were born at 3am on 20 January.
“We fed them immediately on Saturday night with beastings and followed up every four hours,” said Ann Walsh. “They are all drinking well and back to two feeds now.”
The calves, which arrived two weeks early, are under a heat lamp as they are small.

John, Barry and Ann Walsh supply Bandon Co-op. They milk 70 pedigree holstein cows and have registered the calves and named them to mark the event. The heifer has been named Cathy after her mother, with the bulls named Kevin Barry and Buzz Aldrin after two famous men that were also both born on 20 January.
