The winner saw off competition from finalists selected at agricultural shows around the country.

Judges were instructed to select the best entry from dishes of six potatoes of any variety.

According to the competition’s rules, “each tuber should be free from skin blemishes, be true to type, and weigh approximately 6oz (170g)”.
