Price prospects for grain appear to be improving. National grain production will inevitably be down in 2018 and this is reflected in a growing appetite at merchant level to secure harvest supplies. Already there are reports of individual offers of up to €165/t for green barley.

Given the current prospects for international production, one cannot be sure that these price levels will pertain at harvest. But the market is increasingly aware of the consequences of supply issues and this has been reflected in international price volatility. Many merchants suggest green feed barley is likely to be €155/t at harvest, but global production and currency may affect that.
