A new fungicide from Syngenta, containing active ingredient Adepidyn, is moving towards approval for use in fields.
It was registered in the UK in 2024, but the EU has yet to allow its use. Adepidyn can be used on barley and wheat and offers good control of key diseases like septoria.
Speaking to Sarah Iverson, the commercial unit head of Syngenta in northwest Europe, she said: “In Europe we’re hoping there’s an annex 1 listing for Adepidyn in the coming months which then will allow for product registrations to follow and then for that technology to really be available to European farmers... they’ve been waiting a long time. We are really excited to see that technology come to the market.”
The product still has a number of processes to go through so it is unclear if it will be available in 2027.
Iverson said: “It will depend on how long the product registrations take but the AI [active ingredient] registration; we’re hoping to get that in the coming months and then the product registrations will follow.
Product registrations
“Some of the first product registrations in Europe may be more on speciality crops and then cereals will follow after that, but we’re trying to get them as soon as we can, particularly for Ireland. We recognise the disease pressure and the septoria pressure and it’s a fantastic product for septoria.”
