Once again proving their ability to produce performers, the world’s top 10 stallions sired three of the top-five placed in the Longines World Cup final at Lyon last weekend. The winner for Daniel Deusser of Germany was Cornet D’Amour by world sixth-placed Cornet Obolensky. That same sire produced Marcus Ehning’s fourth-placed stallion Cornado, out of an Acrobat dam. Slotting into fifth was Steve Guerdat on Nino des Buissonnets, by world second-placed Kannan.
Second in the closely fought competition went to Ludger Beerbaum on the mare Chiara, who is by 23rd ranked Contender. In third came Britain’s Brash Scott On Ursula by Ahorn. World ranked-eighth Mr Blue had the seventh-placed Simon for defending champion Beezie Madden. In sixth was a Quidam de Revel stallion, Groep Verdi, for Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten.
Ireland’s Billy Twomey began well in the competition with a clear on Tinka’s Serenade in Friday’s speed leg. But two down in the Grand Prix leg on Saturday knocked him out of contention. The winning 11-year-old stallion Cornet D’Amour went clear in every round to score a stunning victory for Daniel Dreusser. See how you can breed from the world’s top stallions with our contact list compiled by The Irish Horse and HSI on page 33.
