Preparations are in full swing for this week’s National Ploughing Championships livestock demos on the Irish Farmers Journal stand at Block 3, Row 12, Stand 264.

This year’s stand is bigger and better with cows and calves, store steers and ewes and lambs all on display over the three days.

This year, we are partnering with ICBF and Bord Bia to bring you six demos each day starting at 10am with a demo on the hour every hour over the three days of the Ploughing Championships.

Fertility

ICBF will present new data on fertility trends in the national suckler herd and how we can use indexes as a tool to increase profit in suckler herds.

Bord Bia will present some views on market outlook, give an update on exports so far this year and outline some important promotional work being completed overseas to grow beef and lamb markets.

Darren Carty will cover some sheep topics with a selection of ewes and lambs on the stand, what can people expect.

Winter

Tommy will also cover some important help topics coming into winter 2018 – how to identify sick animals and what is normal in terms of stock husbandry.

Fodder will form a central theme across our demos with live displays of fodder and different bedding materials on the stand. If you have any questions around fodder, health or winter management call into our stand at the ploughing championships where our livestock team will be there to answer your queries.
