As the fodder situation continues to worsen, co-ops have made the decision to import hay and haylage from the UK. Gerry O’Sullivan, Member Relations Manager with Dairygold talk to Caitríona Morrissey about the fodder that the co-op are importing, including cost and how it will be delivered to farmers.

As part of a whistlestop tour of the UK to mark one year to Brexit on 29 March 2019, British Prime Minister Theresa May visited the Jackson dairy farm outside Bangor in Co Down.

During a visit that lasted just over an hour, she toured the farm and met with the President of the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU), Barclay Bell, the chair of the UFU beef and sheep committee, Crosby Cleland, and the chief executive of the NI Meat Exporters’ Association, Conall Donnelly.

John, Martina, Shane and Katie O’Brien attended the first Department of Agriculture clinic to help farmers complete their BPS application online in Cavan. They spoke with Irish Farmers Journal news correspondent Thomas Hubert.

Head of Education at Teagasc, Tony Pettit, says he's keen to see more young women choose agriculture as a future career option. Currently only about 10% of Teagasc participants are women, which would indicate that the number of women taking over farms in the the future will not increase.
