Almost all farmers in GLAS I and II have received their €158 payment for participating in a compulsory training day.

Approximately 37,970 farmers in GLAS I and II have been paid, with the remaining number in GLAS III given until the end of the year to complete their training day.

Responding to a parliamentary question from Fine Gael deputy Tom Neville, Minister Michael Creed confirmed that almost €6m had been issued in payments for training courses for participants and €1.38m to training providers.

“Each GLAS participant who completes the one-day GLAS training course is eligible for a payment of €158. The approved GLAS training provider is eligible for a payment of €80 per course participant,” Minister Creed stated.

The training day caused controversy when it was revealed that some Teagasc advisers were able to pay participants on the day of the course, while other independent advisers had to wait for the Department of Agriculture to issue payments before paying farmers.
