On the night of Saturday 2 December, Eddie Naughton Agri Supplies in Roscommon town was targeted by thieves who stolen in excess of €5,000 worth of equipment.
The thieves stole the following items:
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Eddie Naughton said this is not the first time his businesses have been targeted.
“They took in the region of €5,000 worth of equipment from us. It’s a hard blow to take and it’s about the fourth or fifth time over the past 25 years that we have been hit by thieves. I’m offering a reward of €500 for information leading to the recovery of the equipment,” he said.
The thieves broke the lock on the front gate and accessed the yard that way. The yard is along the main N61 road and Naughton is shocked that no one saw any suspicious activity.
“They were able to get in handy enough, but the amount that they stole, that’s not a 10-minute job. They would’ve needed a cattle trailer or a curtain-sided trailer to move the stuff because there was too much for any jeep with trailer.”
Naughton is convinced that the stolen items have been sold on to farmers in various parts of the country.
“I’m full sure that the gates and other things are on farms in Clare or Cork or Wexford or Donegal. There’s no way that they could sell that stuff locally, so I am asking farmers to pay attention to stuff that they bought recently because it could be stolen.”
Gardaí in Roscommon town are investigating the theft and can be contacted on 090-663 8300.
