A new deal between Larry Goodman’s ABP, and Beijing Hope Ltd, will see the company offer Irish beef products on the e-commerce site JD.com.

The site has over 300m active users, and according to ABP is one of the largest business-to-consumer online retailers in China.

Online food shopping is growing in popularity in Asian markets and ABP hopes to tap into this trend.

“ABP is delighted to be the first European processor to offer premium beef products to China’s growing online marketplace,” Mark Goodman, managing director of ABP’s international division said.

“This deal is a further tangible endorsement of the quality beef that Ireland and ABP continues to offer.”

Chinese contract

In May this year, ABP announced it was the first Irish company to secure a contract in China, with a three-year arrangement to supply beef to the restaurant chain Wowprime.

China is currently Ireland’s second biggest export market for dairy and pork products.

Irish companies gained access to the Chinese market this year and hopes are high in the industry that with growing Asian demand, China could become one of Ireland’s biggest beef importers, helping to mitigate the fallout from Brexit.
