For schoolgoers, the School Zone returns to the Agri Careers Expo once again. This zone caters for the significant number of second level students and their teachers who will be in attendance at the event.

Hub activities will take place from 10:30 – 14:00. But what topics will be covered in the hub and at what time?

Panel: Young stars in the Irish Farmers Journal

Time: 10:30 – 11:00

On this panel, a number of young Irish Farmers Journal staff from across the business, will outline what they do on a day to day basis, in Ireland’s leading agricultural publication.

Panel: Is an Ag course for me?

Time: 11:00 – 11:30

This panel aims to give leaving cert students an idea of what to expect both during and after college, if they choose to study an agri-food course. We will be speaking with graduates and students that study or studied agri food courses across the country.

Panel: Is college my pathway?

Time: 11:30 – 12:00

Anthony Mulligan, a final year agricultural science student, will tell his story, how he went from a plumber in Limerick, to a level 5 FETAC course in Meath, to now being in final year of a level 8 course in UCD.

Panel: Apprenticeships, the diverse range of opportunities

Time: 12:00 – 12:30

As more and more apprenticeship courses begin across Ireland, we talk with apprentices who have studied courses such as IT, culinary arts and a trades.

Panel: Balancing social media and study

Social media is the biggest distraction for students facing into exams. Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook can be the enemy of students, teachers and parents when it comes to maximising study time. We look at how to balance this.
