Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed has confirmed the allocation of €3m for this year’s protein aid scheme.
The support provides a coupled payment for growing protein crops such as beans, peas and lupins.
This money is allocated from the overall CAP Pillar I financial ceiling available to Ireland. Since 2015, €3m has been allocated annually to this scheme.

In 2017, approximately 1,200 applicants received €215/ha.
However, as the rate of support payable per hectare is determined by the number of eligible hectares declared in that year, the rate for 2018 cannot be confirmed until all applications are received and processed.
